I believe that most symptoms of depression and anxiety are caused by negative self thoughts, beliefs, and perceptions that we have learned over various experiences in our lives. These thoughts eventually become habitual. By using CBT, we will work together to first identify these thoughts and beliefs, the reasons for why we have come to think this way, and then challenge ourselves to learn new, more productive ways of thinking. EMDR is successful at treating individuals diagnosed with PTSD by allowing them to learn skills to safely reprocess memories of traumatic experiences, thus removing roadblocks that are keeping them from being able to move forward with their lives. We will also work together to identify and change lifestyle / environmental issues that are contributing to the individual’s depression and anxiety, such as diet, sleep, and lack of exercise. Please understand that individuals may react differently to various treatments. What works for one individual might not work for another. I believe a major factor of what ultimately determines if a treatment is successful is the relationship and trust you develop with your therapist.

I work with individuals 16 years and older who are dealing with symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress disorder. I specialize in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) to treat depression and anxiety/panic disorders. I have been trained and have gained valuable experience using Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) to treat individuals who have experienced severe trauma caused by domestic violence, sexual assault or abuse, physical and mental abuse, childhood neglect and abandonment, or who have been involved in other incidents that might have caused physical bodily harm or fear of loss of life.
I have six years of experience working with patients as a case manager, intake clinician, and therapist in a community mental health setting.
